At Tended Root, we center queer and Trans people moving through the thresholds of family: fertility, conception, pregnancy, loss, abortion, birth, postpartum, and parenting. We know this time can be tender, overwhelming, joyful, and transformative. We offer care that honors the complexity of these transitions.
We weave integrative psychiatry, somatic therapy, and bodywork to support your becoming.
Integrative Psychiatry
Integrative psychiatry is more than conventional medication management. It’s a whole-person approach that honors your body, values, and lived experience. Yes, we use the tools of diagnosis and medication when they serve you, but we also widen the lens to consider your full ecology.
This includes how you sleep, move, and connect in relationships. It includes gut health, brain metabolism, hormonal shifts, and the stress patterns your nervous system holds. It includes the role of identity, and cultural meaning-making in shaping your experience of the world. And it may include nutraceuticals (supplements) and other evidence-based supports as alternatives or companions to prescriptions.
For queer and Trans people moving through conception, pregnancy, loss, abortion, birth, or postpartum, this broader view matters.
Medication may be an important part of your care, or you may be looking to reduce or discontinue it safely. Whatever path you choose, we walk with you: listening deeply, collaborating openly, and honoring your agency at every step.
Somatic Therapy
Somatic therapy works with the wisdom of your body as the primary compass for your healing. Trauma and stress live in muscle, fascia, posture, and breath. Somatic therapy helps bring awareness and release to those patterns so your system can reorganize around safety and vitality.
In practice, this means connecting with sensation, movement, imagery, and breath to process emotion, regulate the nervous system, and create new possibilities for resilience. Somatic therapy queers the landscape of perinatal care: bringing emotional presence to fertility journeys, preparing for the physical and energetic experience of birth, resourcing postpartum nervous systems; tending grief after pregnancy loss; and integrating the body’s changes across birth and parenting.
Somatic therapy can reduce anxiety, ease depressive patterns, and increase nervous system flexibility. It supports deeper connection to yourself, more ease in relationships, and greater access to joy, pleasure, and vitality. This is care that helps you feel more at home in your body and more resourced for the journey of family-building.
“Roe brings an exquisite blend of joy, skill and love to their practice. Their presence feels grounded as much as connected to the mysteries that bring healing to life. I would recommend their gifts to anyone who feels called to the intersection between Western medicine and a nature based approach. Their work is a blessing.”
Our work acknowledges both the collective grief and systemic barriers queer and Trans families face, as well as the joy and resilience of being. We believe the anxiety, pain, and overwhelm often experienced in these times are responses appropriate to the stressors.
As queer practitioners, it is our joy to celebrate and support queer and Trans families through the perinatal continuum.
